So here's an outline of what I do to make my stuff.
After I create a new file, I add two layers immediately. There's no drawing on the white bottom layer. (It can be deleted at the end of the piece if you want a transparent background).
The first of the transparent layers is where you should sketch out the piece: Use a Light Blue or Light Red.
-Be loose about it, don't worry about details.
After penciling, I go up to the top layer to draw in black. Now, here's Artstudio's wonderful hidden gem: Line Smoothing. To utilize this, go to Edit -> Drawing Mode. This lets you take your basic pencil and reduce the "shakiness", giving a much smoother line that looks more like a brushstroke. This also lets you draw circles, squares, etc... By changing the mode. This is one of the best features to use. I don't go any higher than 5 on line smoothing, as any higher can be a bit unwieldy.
